Vivoactive 3 terrible battery drain. Just over the last couple days I've noticed it dying off while just wearing without any activity. Last night I took it off the charger at 50% to wear while I slept and 8 hours later when I woke up it was dead. I charged it back up to 100% and have worn it for 3 hours now mostly sitting at my desk and it's The watch restart (no gear nor progression bar) and is now forever stuck in a boot loop (Garmin Logo only + Vibration every 20 sec (as if it can't complete the boot process so it keeps re-trying to start until the battery dies).

They had me take a photo of the charging cable.

In some cases, you can get it to work by cleaning the contacts with an eraser or alcohol. Or try swapping out for a new cable and/or using a different charging source (computer port or wall…. I have this problem from time-to time. The way I fix it is to spray WD40 on the end of the cable that plugs into the watch and the connector on the watch.

My Vivoactive 3 was not charging a few days ago. I cleaned the connection with a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol as I always have in the past when I’ve had this problem. It charged to 100%. Today, I connected to the charger again but while it was plugged in and showing it was charging, it went from 36% to 3% battery life in a short time.
Magnets won't hurt anything, but you are still plugging into the charging port. This will not lessen any wear and tear on using the port frequently. You may save wear and tear on the charging cable, but not on the watch. And the batteries usually have a 2-3 year life. Even if you charge every day, that is only about 1000 charging cycles
