Piston/ring issues, broken valve spring, bent or dropped valve If its just one cylinder, I doubt its a cam or timing issue. It shouldn't take a lot of time though, that's easy to diagnose unless your tech is a moron.

But I do love the sound the engine makes when I go through the gears and the RPM increases. The sound goes from a purr to a growl to a snarl. Before my engine dropped a valve, I heard ticking from the lifters.
